Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where are you located?

A.  734 N. Progress Drive Medina, Ohio 44256

Q. Can I register for a class online if I’ve never taken gymnastics?

A. Yes, you can. You simply must meet the age requirements for each class. Register in our client portal through our website, and take a beginner age appropriate class!

Q. How do I register?

A. Visit our online portal and register easily and seamlessly. You may also contact our front office for any assistance with registering for any class. Walk-ins are welcome too if we have space!

Q. What are your class ratios?

A. Ratios are (6:1) for ages 18 months to five years of age, instructional gymnastics and (8:1) for ages 6+ classes.

Q. What are your minimum class sizes?

The minimum class size is 3 children and we reserve the right to cancel any class that does not meet the minimum number of children. You are more than welcome to join a class at anytime as long as there are available spots in the class. We will prorate the tuition accordingly.

Q. What are your arrival and pick up policies?

A. Be sure your student arrives at the very least 5 minutes before his/her scheduled class time. Please pick up your student on time. Please inform us if you know you will be late picking up your student. Instruct your student to wait inside the building and you should escort them from the building to your car. During peak times the parking lot is crowded. Please take into consideration that our students may include young children. Please drive slowly and carefully. Do not take a chance on your student running to and from your car.

Q. What is your make-up policy?

A. Because of our strict student to teacher ratio, missed classes will not result in make-up classes, prorated tuition or refunds. No refunds for classes missed including scheduled holidays.

Q. What age can my child(ren) start instructional gymnastics classes?

A. 18 months is an appropriate age for our 18 month-2 year old class, Tiny Tykes. If your child is walking and crawling sooner, and is capable of taking a class at twelve months, this would be the soonest we would allow any mommy and me type of instruction. A physician would have to clear your child for activities before the age of 18 months. Please bring a doctor’s clearance of good health form for participation and hand it to our front office.

Q. What age can my child(ren) start yoga classes?

A. We offer kids yoga from ages 6 and up.

Q. Can I register online for yoga classes?

A.  Yes, download the Mindbody app and register through your phone app or online through our official website.

Q. What should I wear to yoga class?

 A. A stretchy pair of long tights and a tank top is acceptable. Some individuals come to class with a long sleeved shirt until they warm up, and then they take it off to remain in their sporty tank top. Whatever you wear, it should be flexible and comfortable since the body is moving in many directions during class.

Q.  Can my daughter or son take classes even if she is currently at another gym with a team program?

A.  Definitely! Use our facility as a supplement to your child’s training in any way you wish whether it’s for yoga or gymnastics, you are always welcome! Dominique wants to assist as many children as possible to attain their goals, enjoy the sport safely, as well as provide insight. Sometimes a gymnast requires additional hours work on those specific skills s/he may want to improve upon, and this time spent on skill work can be achieved through our camps or classes. Many gymnastics clubs don’t offer the yoga classes we do, so please pop in any time and take a class! It is advised to register online for the advanced gymnastics classes if you are a team level gymnast in order to make sure spots are available. High school gymnasts are welcome here as well for additional training any time of the year. The Advanced Gymnastics II class is taught by Dominique Moceanu, and will be the highest level class offered prior to moving to a team program gym club. In this class, students will focus on specific skill work with specific goals per week, and any students “popping in” can join the flow of the class. We will work on many things, but the focus is deep skill and technical work to meet the needs of each individual’s goal. This is a great way to introduce supplemental training if you visit us from an existing team program gym. There’s many ways to improve your gymnastics, so think outside the box!

Q.  Can I drop my child(ren) off at a gymnastics class and take a yoga class simultaneously?

A.  Of course! In fact, it is encouraged as we are a center where safety of sport, as well as health and fitness, is central in all we do. We want families to destress while their children are taking a class! It’s a win-win for everyone! Families are always encouraged to pop in to a yoga class for their own well-being and physical fitness!

Q.  Can children participate in yoga?

 A.  Definitely! There are age appropriate sessions throughout the week. Please view the online schedule for the yoga classes offered for children.

Q.  Can I invite a friend to take a yoga class?

A.  Definitely! Bring a friend to any yoga class at any time, and they can receive our “drop in” rate. Just remember to register your guest online so we have appropriate space. If you forget, stop by our front desk to make sure space is available! Call ahead of time to double check spacing if you haven’t registered your guest online. We will do our best to accommodate; however, spacing is limited once the session fills up.

Q.  How long are the instructional gymnastics sessions?

A.  Twelve week sessions or month to month.

Q.   How are payments taken?

 A.  Class payments are typically taken online when one registers for a class. However, you may be able to pay in person at our front office if need be. It is advised to register online to make sure we have the appropriate instructor/gymnast ratio for the class. Gymnastics class payments are paid monthly (on the 25th) once you become a member of our program.

Q.  Is there an annual family membership fee?

A.  Yes, we have annual membership dues of $40/person paid at the time of registration with our program. This fee solely covers insurance costs and safety needs. Annual membership dues will occur on your anniversary month every year thereafter. There is also a Gold Medal Membership option which gives discounts for our pro shop as well as has other perks and benefits. Please check with our front office for this option if you are interested.

Q.  Is there a key fob available?

 A. Yes, in the interest of improving safety measures within our gymnastics facility, we will have a key fob for each team member in order to keep our children and members safer. Once you are no longer a member, the fob must be returned to our font desk along with the withdrawal form filled out. (Withdrawal Form) There is a $25 fob fee if stolen or lost. For non-team members you will be let in by the front office staff.

Q. How are private lessons conducted?

A.   All private lessons with our staff are scheduled through our front desk. For private lessons with Dominique Moceanu, please book here. Our policy for private lessons is that no child is ever to be alone with any adult teaching the private lesson. There should always a parent/guardian/or adult 21 years of age or older sitting in on the lesson at all times. If this cannot be arranged, the private lesson may not take place. Prices and availability vary for each coach.

Q.  Should my child(ren) take only one class per week?

A.   It is advised that if you wish for your child to improve their skills at a faster rate, you take two classes per week (if possible). However, one class a week is always acceptable. The results may come much faster, however, if two classes a week are taken. It is truly up to each family to decide how many classes they wish to participate in. Just keep in mind, if one is seeking to improve faster and loves the sport, two classes a week is ideal for ideal physical fitness and improvement.

Q. Do you host camps and birthday parties?

Q. Can I stop in for open gym on Friday nights and bring a friend who hasn’t done gymnastics or isn’t a member at the gym?

A. Definitely! Our staff will give proper instruction about safety prior to every open gym class. Friday nights are always more fun with friends so bring as many as you wish to get exposure to gymnastics, jump on the trampoline, attempt to climb our rock wall, and simply join us for the overall fun! Karaoke time is included for those who wish to participate! Karaoke is optional, however! The fee is $20.00 an hour. If you choose to stay for both hours, the fee is $40.00. You can pre-pay online through the online portal which is preferred so we can have a proper head count each ahead of time for staffing. You may pay when you arrive if we have space as well, but only if we have not reached capacity. It’s always suggested to register online via the parent portal for open gym!

Q. What is your refund policy?

A. Dominique Moceanu Gymnastics Center (DMGC) does not offer credits and/or refunds for cancelled classes due to holiday, vacation, illness, weather or any other reason. All sales are final for any product and/or service purchased and/or provided by DMGC.

Q. What is your withdrawal/drop procedure?

A. We always hate to see you go, but know that it’s a possibility, so please fill out our withdrawal form, and hand deliver it to the front desk. You can send via email. This is the only way to drop a class. All key fobs mist be returned at the time the withdrawal form is submitted as well. If the key fob is lost, or stolen or damaged, there is a $25.00 fee for it. PARENTS MUST NOTIFY THE GYM TO DROP A STUDENT FROM CLASS. You must fill out our withdrawal form and hand delivered to our front desk by the 20th of the month. This is the only way to drop a class. Please note: You are responsible for payment for your student's classes WHETHER OR NOT YOUR STUDENT ATTENDS CLASS until the time you notify the staff VIA WRITTEN  NOTICE. Please do not rely on your student to verbally let us know that he/she will no longer be attending classes. If a student stops coming to class without notification then that student's account will be charged for the additional 30 days. This charge will be for holding the student's place in that class instead of offering that place to one of the many on a waiting list.

Q. What payment types do you accept?

A. We accept Cash, Check, Visa, Discover, American Express and Master Card. Gift cards are also available.

Q.  My child is in the Xcel program at another gym and would like to take some classes with you as well, can she do this?

A. They may take any of our tumbling or recreational classes being offered.

Q.  How can I register my child?

A. Click the member icon in the top navigation of our website.

Q.  How much is kids yoga? And, when are the classes offered?

A. There is a flat rate for kids yoga of $12 drop-in/class. Our schedule can change so please view the class schedule on the Mindbody app. Kids yoga for ages 3-6 is 4:00pm-4:30pm, and for ages 7-15 it is 4:30pm-5:00pm. All class offerings for yoga are on a first come first serve basis so always register online to reserve your spot. Once we fill up, you’ll be placed on a waiting list, and we may or may not have room once we are at capacity. It is always advised to register yourself in a class ahead of time. If there is room, the app will let you know. Mindbody will also let you know if we are at capacity. Typically capacity is 17 people.

Q.  How are the children evaluated in gymnastics classes?

A. Children are evaluated within the first three class sessions. Coaches will not make a huge deal about the evaluation being done to avoid unnecessary anxiety on the child, but the coach will kindly ask the child to show their skills during practice. The skills may also already be incorporated during the class, and the coaches will have their evaluation form so they will 1.) Assess and evaluate where the child is at currently when they arrive at DMGC, then 2.) Where the child needs to improve and gain better technical aspect of the skill, and 3.) If the child can do the skill with more integrity (aka: excellent form, proper technique, maximum potential). Parents must understand that doing the skill correctly technically and with integrity take more time to master (and could be an  ongoing effort for the duration of their time as a gymnast). It is a longer road rather than just marking the skill off of the skill chart only when s/he gets it. We focus on the integrity of the skill before they fully can mark off the skill completion with integrity. There are little rewards along the way, however! They also receive a report card evaluation twice per year.

Q.   How does my child pass to the next level?

A. The gymnast must complete the skill chart goals (with integrity) from each level (Beginner I, Beginner II, Beginner III, Rec) of gymnastics prior to moving on to the next level. This takes time to master so parents be full understanding that developing proper technique and skills in this sport can take years for some children. The benefits of your children in the sport far outweigh just placing emphasis on the skills only. Sure, it is always exciting to gain a new skill, but the entire sport provides so many great developmental benefits of good health, physical fitness, discipline, self-confidence, positive self-image, transformative growth and beyond. Many gymnasts go on to typically become very high achievers simply by dedicating themselves to the sport and all of its offerings. As a parent, always keep this in mind for your child’s benefit. Once your child is invited to team, moving up levels are based on scores in competitions.

Q.  How often should my child take yoga?

A. Since we are a center focused on good health and family fitness, we highly recommend that all of our gymnasts take at the very least one yoga class a week to benefit their overall health and well-being. This is for their mental clarity. Yoga is a great way to teach children early on how to breath to decompress, and yoga can give them tools to destress to deal with anxieties, pressures and other stressors. Science has proven how beneficial yoga is from a mental and physical perspective. To gain the measurable overall health benefits, we recommend up to two gymnastics classes a week and two yoga classes (or more) a week. This dedication would be phenomenal for your child’s overall well-being. However, it is up to each family what they choose to enroll and partake in. We simply recommend suggestions.

Q.  Can my child take private lessons with any coach?

A. Yes, they can take private lessons with any of our staff members. Simply, reach out to the front desk. Our secretary or evening receptionist can take a message for the staff member and the staff member can contact you via email or by phone. Simply leave all the important details for our office to pass along to the staff member. Important details which need to be left: 1. Full name of parent, 2. Name of gymnast, 3. Level of gymnast, 4. Private lesson goals, 5. Phone Number to contact, 6. Email to contact, 7. Are you a DMGC member? If no, which gym are you coming from? 8. Fill out a waiver form for the lesson and leave it with our front desk. If you wish to have private lessons with Dominique Moceanu, click here. All staff set their own private lessons rate, and will inform you of their prices once you’ve communicated with them.

PLEASE NOTE:

Schedule subject to change based on availability. Please call ahead to assure that your class is available. The minimum class size is 3 children and we reserve the right to cancel any class that does not meet the minimum number of children. You are more than welcome to join a class at anytime as long as there are available spots in the class. We will prorate the tuition accordingly.
